On October 11, 2022, the International Day of the Girl Child, Dr. Nkechi Ikpeazu, founder of the Vicar Hope Foundation, held a summit at the innovation growth hub, 10 Calabar Street, Aba, Abia State. The summit was themed "Our Time is Now: Our Rights, Our Future."

Before the summit, OakChain and Partner FIGA Initiatives went to about 10 schools, such as St. Joseph's College, Girls Secondary School, Abayi, and Excella Secondary School. They gave some sanitary pads to the students there. These schools included St. Joseph's College, Girls Secondary School, Abayi, and Excella Secondary School.

However, during the summit, over 200 girls from the 10 schools made a total of 500+ people present, including top dignitaries like the wife of the governor of Abia State. Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, founder of Vicar Hope Foundation, and Mrs. Rose Nna Urenta, Abia State Commissioner of Women's Affairs and Social Development office.

During the event, OakChain educates teenage girls about blockchain and technology skills, and the representatives were;

  • Aisha Sule — Team Member
  • Nansel Rimsah — Advisor
  • Tochukwu Nwolisa — Advisor

Educating the children was an exciting experience. They had so much interest in learning about crypto technology and blockchain. It was a very interactive section, and the mothers and elderly in the crowd were eager to learn more.

Although some kids have heard about this, they believe cryptocurrency to be for only scammers, a common misconception not only among kids but some adults in the world today.

However, one of our goals at OakChain is to correct this misconception. By educating people about crypto technology and simplifying it for anyone to understand.

The speaker, Aisha Sule, spoke about various skills learned within crypto. She talked about our curriculum at OakChain. Everyone became interested in signing up to learn about crypto and gain skills like marketing, content writing, community management, etc. Through the curriculum, they stand a chance to win scholarships with our partner, Token Academy.

The most important takeaway from the event was the new knowledge gained by the students. As technology advances, the kids must learn about it. They, in turn, would spread the awareness to their friends who couldn’t make it to the event. This would help bring more light to crypto in driving mass adoption and the many opportunities that come with it.

The UNFPA, the Vicar Hope Foundation, and the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Social Development all helped to support this event. Our partner, FIGA Initiative, was also present in their glory.

Ultimately, we had a great time, and we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success. Not to mention all of you who have attended! We are grateful that you could attend the sessions and ask such insightful questions. This event went well, and we're looking forward to planning more events soon where people of all ages can learn more about blockchain technology.
